Beyond Backlog: How Talent Shifts and AI Are Reshaping Civil Engineering Firms

Monday, October 26th
2:15pm-3:15pm EDT

About the Session

Civil engineering firms remain busy, but busy doesn’t always mean profitable. Margins tighten, labor costs rise and proposal volume increases without matching returns. At the same time, generational transitions and AI-enabled production are changing how firms are staffed, structured, and where value is captured. This session examines how engineering firms generate durable profit and how that model is evolving. We will explore revenue concentration, succession exposure, margin leakage, and the need to build broader relationship capability across the firm. Attendees will leave with practical actions to strengthen profitability and organizational resilience without simply pursuing more work.
