New Strategies for the Next Generation of Engineering Ownership

Wednesday, October 28th
9:45am-10:45am EDT

About the Session

Ownership transition in closely held engineering firms has become significantly more complex. The financial realities, workforce demographics, and expectations of the next generation have shifted so dramatically that the approaches many firms used just 10–15 years ago often no longer work today. When firms fail to recognize generational and financial misalignment early in the transition process, the perceived “easy” solution is often selling to a larger firm or private equity. However, that path can come with significant financial and cultural consequences, including the potential loss of legacy.

Attendees will learn about hybrid ownership structures, long-term incentive programs, and the increasing role of ESOPs in the AE industry. They also will gain practical insights into how these tools can help firms create sustainable transition plans without forcing the next generation into unrealistic financial commitments.
