Bruce serves as President and Chief Operating Officer of Oates Associates, a 70-person civil-structural engineering firm with offices in Illinois and Missouri. Bruce oversees all aspects of firm operations, from project selection and technical production to quality assurance, client development, and staff growth. With more than 40 years of engineering experience, Bruce sets company-wide standards for project management performance, emphasizing client satisfaction and measurable outcomes.

A strategic leader and technical resource, Bruce guides the firm’s civil and structural engineers while supporting project managers through training and mentorship. His commitment to professional development fosters innovative design solutions and a culture of excellence.

Bruce is actively involved in the American Council of Engineering Companies (Illinois and Missouri), and served on the ACEC-IL Board of Directors in all offices to Board Chair (2019-20). Bruce is also active in the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, serving all Chapter and State offices to State President (2009-10). He serves on the School of Engineering Advisory Board at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, helping shape the future of the profession.

Outside of work, Bruce enjoys life with his wife Kristine, their three children—Connor, Cole, and Claire, and their golden retriever, Daisy. He’s an avid outdoorsman who finds joy in travel, hunting, biking, hiking, and the occasional stop at a local brewery.
