Standing Up a Project Delivery Office in an AEC Firm: Lessons Learned from Concept to Execution

Tuesday, October 27th
2:15pm-3:15pm EDT

About the Session

Many AEC firms recognize the need for stronger project delivery governance, more consistent project management practices, and improved risk management, but struggle with how to implement these changes without creating unnecessary bureaucracy. Whether called a Project Management Office (PMO) or Project Delivery Office (PDO), the challenge is often less about structure and more about leadership, adoption, and execution.
This session shares the real-world experience of establishing a PDO/PMO at Freese and Nichols, SSR, and RS&H and the lessons learned along the way.
The discussion will highlight practical initiatives, including project management training and development, quality management improvements, and the standardization of project management practices. Presenters will share both successes and challenges, offering attendees actionable insights that can be adapted to their own firm’s culture, size, and maturity level.
