TSMC: Engineering the Future at Historic Scale in Phoenix

Phoenix stands at the crossroads of technology, global innovation, AI implementation, and historic engineering investment. In 2020, TSMC chose Phoenix, Arizona, for its first advanced U.S. semiconductor manufacturing site—which is now a 2,000-plus-acre project that represents the largest foreign direct investment in a greenfield project in U.S. history.

This investment is positioning greater Phoenix as a global semiconductor hub by drawing suppliers, expanding workforce programs, advancing infrastructure, and creating tens of thousands of high-wage technical jobs. ACEC member firms are helping deliver the infrastructure and development needed to support TSMC at this historic scale. The project also incorporates strong sustainability measures, including advanced water management and recycling systems. An Industrial Water Reclamation Plant, expected to be completed in 2028, is planned to recycle 90% or more of the site’s water.
